Becoming a promoter of Belarusian music, he made an invaluable contribution to the development of national culture from 1987 until the last years of his life as the permanent artistic director of the country’s academic concert orchestra. In the Belarusian capital, in the house where the People’s Artist lived until 2021, on February 21, the maestro’s birthday, a Memory Board was opened. According to Deputy Culture Minister Sergei Sarakach, “this shows great respect for the unique personality of Mikhail Yakovlevich Finberg. Under his leadership, the orchestra became a real propagandist of Belarusian music, and today it preserves carefully the traditions that the people’s artist deposited in it.”He also added that Finberg was a true patriot of his country and, through his teaching talent, raised more than a generation of professional musicians. Under his leadership, hundreds of concert programs in the genres of pop, jazz and academic music of works by Belarusian, Soviet and foreign composers were prepared and performed. The maestro invested his life and love in the country’s academic orchestra, which was like family to him, recalled Tatyana Glazunova, musical soloist at the ceremony. He lived, according to her, the orchestra almost around the clock. Of course, “he had high demands for the musicians. But at the same time, he always sought to improve himself and constantly focused on his personal development. After everything, without it there would be no results,” she said.By the way, the plate of the winner of the special prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus “Through art – to peace and mutual understanding” was opened several years ago in Vitebsk immediately after a festive procession color and the raising of the flag of the international music festival. For many years, the National Academic Concert Orchestra under the direction of Mikhail Finberg has become a kind of hallmark of the “Slavianski Bazaar”, his grateful compatriots recall.
