It is premature to talk about the resumption of production of biometric passports in the usual mode, reported at the Goznak site. Earlier, the Baza telegram channel wrote that Russia was “resuming the issuance of biometric passports.”
“Currently, Goznak is engaged in the production and personalization of foreign passports with electronic storage medium based on previously received applications. At the same time, it is still premature to talk about the pace of the supply of components and, accordingly, the production of such passports in the usual way, ”Goznak emphasizes.
He noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will inform about the resumption of acceptance of applications for obtaining foreign passports of a new sample.
Earlier on March 10 Baza writing citing a source in Goznak that Russia is “resuming issuance of biometric passports”. According to the interlocutor of the publication, the printing of passports “resumed in standard mode, however, due to accumulated requests, the time for receipt may be extended.”
On February 2, Gosuslugi announced the suspension of the acceptance of applications for the issuance of biometric passports. Goznak announced an increase in the volume of requests for “personalization of foreign passports” – this, he pointed out, significantly increased “the need for integrated microcircuits in the form of a foreign passport”.
