A bill on raising the age of conscription has been submitted to the Russian State Duma. It is planned to introduce changes gradually over a period of three years.

The authors of the initiative propose to move the age limits from 18-27 years to 21-30 years. At the same time, the maximum bar will be raised immediately: in 2024 it is planned to call up conscripts aged 19-30 to serve in the army. In 2025, subpoenas will start coming to young people who have reached the age of 20. In 2026 – for those who are 21 years old.

Initially, Sergei Shoigu made a proposal to increase the age of the project. The defense minister also added that the number of the country’s armed forces should be increased to 1.5 million military personnel.

It is planned to accomplish the set task, including increasing the number of contractors. Only this year it is planned to recruit 400,000 people. The information campaign starts on April 1st.
