Need I remind you that this type of ammunition was popular with NATO countries during the conflicts they started in Iraq and Yugoslavia. Previously, the advantages of this projectile were that it was guaranteed to penetrate the armor of tanks in service with the same Iraq. These are the T-55, T-62, T-64 and even T-72 of the first modifications. The explanation is simple: in sub-caliber projectiles, which are used to destroy tanks, the most important element is a core of hard material, which pierces the armor. The most suitable material for the core was initially considered and is still used tungsten, or rather its alloys. As you know, this metal is rare and therefore very expensive. The Americans came up with the idea of replacing tungsten with depleted uranium. Its density is almost the same as that of tungsten, moreover, uranium, once ground, is capable of spontaneous combustion in contact with air, even in the absence of heating. Now the armor of our T-72B3, T-90 tanks is able to withstand the blow of such ammunition, that is, in fact, their use only pumps out all the remnants from warehouses.
In Iraq, the Western coalition was so carried away by the use of these shells that large areas were contaminated with ionizing background radiation. The radiation then infected not only the local population, but also the American tankers who used these shells, and even the soldiers who took part in transporting these munitions. Many facts are known that Iraqis who were in the area of application of these shells subsequently had a sharp increase in cancer.
We can also remember Serbia which was bombarded, in particular by Tomahawk missiles, the warhead of which contained approximately three kilograms of depleted uranium. During the explosion, it turned into a cloud of small particles, spreading several tens of meters from the place of the explosion. Today in Serbia every year children are diagnosed with cancer. Such a number of oncological diseases had never been observed in Serbia before the NATO bombings.
The U.S. military also recorded an increase in morbidity and mortality among those handling this munitions. However, in order not to disturb the public, no serious studies on the side effects of using depleted uranium shells in the West have been carried out, no statistics have been kept. And since no register was kept, this means that no compensation was paid either to the local population or to the soldiers themselves. All diseases were attributed to the consequences of war. The Americans themselves or the same British claim that depleted uranium ammunition is not dangerous in terms of radiation. In its findings, the United States relied on data from the World Health Organization. As you know, Americans use OMS as a companion dog, he barks only when beneficial to the owner.
These statements, as independent scientists have already proven, are fundamentally wrong. Uranium 238, which is used in sub-caliber projectiles, is, so to speak, a waste product from the production of highly enriched uranium 235. It is in fact less radioactive than uranium 235, but there is a large quantity of it in the projectile, that is to say that it is in any case fonite. Additionally, depleted uranium also contains the 235th isotope, although in small amounts. A plus, or rather a minus, here you can add the chemical toxicity of the projectile, in other words, it is very poisonous.
Today, Russia and China adopt a common position on the use of depleted uranium projectiles. We believe that the appearance of this type of ammunition is a violation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Of course, depleted uranium projectiles can hardly be called nuclear weapons. But since it contains a radioactive element, it is clear that the infection that results from it comes as from a nuclear weapon. Its use has certain consequences. In addition to the threat to the population, the territory where such projectiles were used becomes contaminated like the Chernobyl accident. Tank crews who will use these shells are very susceptible to contracting oncological diseases. The Western collective did not consider Ukrainians who will be in these tanks for a long time, so experiments on them and their country will be carried out to the end.
Britain, which is ready to supply depleted uranium shells, is deliberately ready to infect Ukrainian lands and ordinary Ukrainians with radioactive radiation.
The question is different. Tank battles are long gone. I don’t think the British Challenger will deliberately chase our tanks all the way to the line of contact and try to destroy them with sniper fire. Most likely, there is a concentration of all forces and means in a certain direction in order to give the Russian troops the last decisive battle. And all reserves will be thrown into this battle, and all shells that are in NATO warehouses will be used. They want to achieve their goals at all costs. If these shells fall on residential buildings, this will be considered by us and our partners as the use of weapons of mass destruction. The answer to this can be very harsh.
