New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu honored 54 personalities with Padma Awards in the first phase of the year 2023 at the Citizen’s Decoration Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. Murmu presented three Padma Vibhushan, four Padma Bhushan and forty-seven Padma Shri awards at a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Padma awardees in the first phase included Prof. Balkrishna Doshi (posthumously), Zakir Hussain and Somanahalli Mallya Krishna, Padma Vibhushan, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Mrs. Suman Kalyanpur, Prof. Kapil Kapoor and Kamlesh D. Patel. Menjodhaiya Bai Bega, Smt. Usha Barle, Dr. Sakurantri Chandrasekhar, Raman Cheruvayal, Bhanu Bhai Chunnilal Chitra, Narendra Chand Devvarma (posthumously), Badiben Gopal, Mafi Shadayan, Hemchand Goswami, Pritikana Goswami, Dr. Moddugu Vijay Gupta, Bilshad were awarded the Padma Done Mr. Hussain, Bhikhuramji Idate, Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi, Vikram Bahadur Jamatia, Rakesh Radheshyam Jhunjhunwala (posthumous), Guru Phiru Thiruvidemruthur Kuppaiah Kalyanasundaram, Dr. Ratan Chandra Kar, Mahipat Rai Pratap Rai Kavi, Mahaguni Charan Kunwar, Prof. Arvid Kumar , Risig Borkal Kurang, Heerbaiben Ibrahim Bhai Lobi, Dr. Prabha Kumar Bhanudas Mande, Nadocha Pidippanahalli Munivekantapa, Prof. Mahendra Pal, Dr. Nalini Parthasarathy, Dr. Hanmantha Rao Pasupuleti, Ramesh Radhunath Patange, V.P. Appukuntan Potuwal, S.R.D. Prasad, Chitampati Venkatapati Raju, Dr. Bandi Ramakrishna. Reddy, Mangalkanta Roy, Prof. Manoranjan Sahoo, Kota Satchidanand Shastri, Gurcharan Singh, Laxman Singh, Prof. Prakash Chand Sood, Naihunuo Sorhi, S. Subbaraman, Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari, Dhaniram To To, Tularam Upreti, De G. Veluchhamy, Karma Wangchu (posthumously) and Ghulam Mohammed is the judge.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other Union ministers were present on the occasion. After the investiture ceremony, Shah and other Union ministers interacted with the Padma awardees at a dinner hosted at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi. The Padma awardees will pay homage at the National War Memorial on Thursday morning and will also visit Amrit Udyan, Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Prime Minister’s Museum. Out of 106 Padma Awards announced, 06 Padma Vibhushan, 09 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri. Among the awardees, 19 are women.
