Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

“SOYUZ” asked its readers what they think of older workers

Svetlana Krivtsova, pensioner, Krasnoyarsk:

  • I am “for” when people over fifty find a job. But not all jobs are suitable for them. She herself “trumpeted” 30 years as a postman – it’s very hard work. It’s a good job to do when you’re young and healthy! Anyway, I wouldn’t go back to the post office now.

Valery Chernykh, builder, Gomel:

  • Definitely yes. Age is experience, and people with experience in the construction industry always get the green light. For example, I am over 50, but who do you think the employer will choose – a specialist with long experience, like me, or a recent university graduate? The answer is obvious. And who will show young people how to do it?
    Svetlana Loban, entrepreneur, Minsk:
  • I sell clothes and regularly hire salespeople. Of course, I favor young people: they are faster, more sociable, more aware of fashion. But those with young children often go on sick leave. For example, a woman worked for me after the decree, her child was sick every two weeks. Now I’m thinking of taking someone older in his place.

Irina Volynets, housewife, Simferopol:

  • If you need to hire craftsmen to repair the equipment or embed the lock, then I prefer to deal with the generation 50+. These craftsmen value time and are meticulous in their work. That I was so lucky, but I didn’t have to fix the jambs behind them. I have noticed that the older generation is characterized by commitment in word and deed.
Yuri Chernavin, head of the department of personnel and legal work of the Department of Civil Protection in Ufa:

  • We have no age discrimination. Those who want to get a job as a lifeguard must pass the standards and pass an interview, including with a psychologist. The best option is someone who already has a lifeguard qualification, experience or has worked in other units. Such professionals, by the way, who have retained their physical form, no one will refuse.

Maria Kondratyuk, paramedic, Vitebsk region:

  • An elderly person is always more reliable. I remember a driver in his early twenties working with me, he was often late, he didn’t put in much effort. After him, two more, then they took a retired man – and things started to go. Such people are a boon to any team.
