He revealed in a tweet that the platform will be rolling out a policy next month that he says will allow users who don’t subscribe to the publication’s monthly subscription to pay more per article if they want to read it. “It should be a win-win situation for the media and the public,” Musk said.

The announcement came amid growing tensions between Musk and some media outlets. Previously, the Twitter CEO added a “state-related” label to media accounts such as NPR, PBS and the BBC (blocked in Russia), and removed the old method of verifying accounts for personalities and public organizations, reports The Hill.

Musk also made a major change to the platform when he officially ended what he called “legacy” verification: Public figures could verify their accounts with a blue check mark to distinguish themselves from potential copycats and fake accounts. The Twitter Blue Mask system requires users to pay $8 per month to be verified, organizations must pay $1,000 per month.
