Maharajganj (UP). In view of the urban body elections in Uttar Pradesh, India’s border with Nepal will be sealed on May 2, 48 hours before the polling.
District Election Officer Satendra Kumar told reporters here on Monday that all the means of movement on the border of India adjacent to Nepal would be closed on the evening of Tuesday, May 2, which would remain closed till the evening of May 4. He said that vehicles would be allowed to cross the border only in case of emergency. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) will be given the responsibility of sealing the border.
He told that the decision to seal the border 48 hours before the civic polls was taken recently in a meeting of the officials of India and Nepal. Kumar told that at this time paramilitary forces, police and intelligence agencies are keeping a close watch on every activity happening on the Indo-Nepal border.
Significantly, the 84 km border of Uttar Pradesh is adjacent to Nepal. It also includes Maharajganj district. Voting will be held in this district on coming May 4 under the urban body elections.
