The observation mission of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) recognized that the referendum held in Uzbekistan was open and transparent. “We have not noticed any violations of the law”, – said the general secretary of the organization Zhang Ming. According to him, the entire electoral period took place without external influence, under conditions of free expression of will.
A similar view was expressed by the head of the CIS observation mission, the organization’s general secretary Sergei Lebedev. “The participation in the monitoring of the vote of more than 44,000 observers from political parties and self-governing bodies of Uzbek citizens enabled extensive civilian control to be exercised over the conduct of the referendum,” he said.
