Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Saudi Arabia reports that parties to conflict in Sudan are ready to start negotiations – Reuters

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States welcome the start of preliminary talks between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Reaction Force in Jeddah on May 6, 2023.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States call on both parties to take into account the interests of the Sudanese nation and its people and to actively participate in the negotiations for a ceasefire and a conflict in order to to save the Sudanese people from suffering and to ensure the availability of humanitarian aid in the affected areas,” SPA said in a statement.

The document also notes that the facilitators of the peace talks are calling for continued coordinated international support for an expanded negotiation process that should include the participation of all stakeholders in the conflict in Sudan.

Recall that the conflict broke out on April 15 between the Sudanese military and the paramilitaries led by the Rapid Reaction Forces. According to the Republic’s Minister of Health, the death toll in the clashes has already risen to 600.
