Leps concert canceled in Kazakhstan amid singer’s promises to pay for the destruction of Ukrainian Armed Forces tanks

The concert of Russian singer Grigory Leps has been canceled in Kazakhstan. This was announced by the company Makao Luxury Village, on the site of which the event was to be held.

“Makao Luxury Village Resort, which provided its concert hall to organize the performance of Grigory Leps, has decided to unilaterally terminate the contract with the concert organizers,” reads the Instagram post of the company (property of Meta*).

Makao Luxury Village added that tickets can be returned “at the place of purchase”.

For what reasons the decision to terminate the contract was taken, the report does not specify.

By data local agency KazTAG, residents of Kazakhstan criticized the announcement of the Leps concert and demanded the cancellation of the event. According message Orda portal, the Kazakhs were outraged by the promise of the musician to pay a million rubles for each tank of the Ukrainian army destroyed.

Director of Russian singer Grigory Leps Vladimir Uryupin, commenting Gazeta.ru called Kazakhstan a “Russophobic corner” over the decision to cancel the artist’s concert. In an interview with Russian media, he noted that, despite the indignation of the inhabitants of the republic, the position of the singer and his team remains the same.

“Our position is unchanged, it was, is and will be, it remains as always. We are for our country and we will do everything for our country to win,” Uryupin told Russian media.

In mid-June, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Russian singers, People’s Artists of Russia Grigory Leps and Nikolai Baskov promised to donate 1 million rubles each to the Russian army. for each destroyed Leopard tank of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

We, as representatives of creativity, contribute to our fighters. So that we know they are doing this not only because it is their civil position. And we do it because we want them to know that we are with them in their victory and in their success,” Baskov noted.

Leps, in turn, said he agreed with Baskov’s words. “Anything we can do for our Soviet army – for our Russian army, excuse me, we’ll do it from the heart. If we can sing where we can sing, we’ll sing there. If we can do some kind of monetary reward to our fighters, we will do it,” he assured.

The singer also added that he cannot condemn colleagues who do not participate in the payments, because “it is a private matter for everyone”.
