Rumer Willis reveals how her daughter’s name is tribute to her ill dad Bruce

Rumer Willis’ daughter’s name is a tribute to the actress’ ill dad.

The new mum, 35, had her baby girl Louetta Isley in April with her boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas, 29, and has now told how her name is a mix of the names of her dementia-stricken father Bruce Willis’ favourite singers.

She said during a question-and-answer session with fans on Instagram about how her name is also “a mix of things I love”: “I have always loved the name Lou so was thinking of that for both a boy or a girl but then when we found out she was a girl, we came up with Louetta.

“We wanted to give her options and me and my dad’s favourite singers are Lou = Louie Armstrong, Etta = Etta James, Isley = Isley Brothers.”

Rumer had previously explained the spelling of her daughter’s name came to be thanks to a spelling error in a text message.

She told People: “We were thinking about the name Loretta, and it was a typo. Her dad and I were texting, and he left the ‘R’ out of Loretta, and it was just Louetta.”

She ended up loving the name and decided it was meant to be, adding: “I feel like it was one of those kind of divine intervention universe moments, and we figured it out actually quite early in my pregnancy.”

Rumer also revealed her favourite part about being a mum is when her daughter looks at her, adding: “Every moment with her is amazing, but when she smiles at me is the best feeling in the world.”

Two months after she gave birth Rumer shared a photo of ‘Die Hard’ star Bruce, 68, as he cradled his only grandchild in his arms.

He was forced to retire from acting in March 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, which affects sufferers’ cognitive abilities, and nearly a year later, his family revealed he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

Rihanna admits the one thing she can’t do!

Rihanna says the one thing she can’t do is have daughters.

The ‘Kiss it Better’ singer, 35, who has sons RZA and Riot with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky, also 35, appeared to have having more kids on her mind.

She told E! News at the launch party for her FENTY x PUMA Creeper Phatty fashion collaboration when asked if there was anything she couldn’t do: “So far, have daughters.”

Hinting she’s already planning for a third child, the singer added: “I’m batting at 75 per cent for a boy next time. So, we’ll just keep our fingers crossed.”

The nine-time Grammy winner and boyfriend A$AP Rocky first became parents with son RZA in May 2022, and went on to have their second child, Riot, in August 2023.

Rihanna was also asked by E! if she plans to hand the reigns of her business ventures over to her kids in the future, and said: “I mean, my kids gonna have to get a job someday, right?

“But it’s up to them if they want to be involved.

“My kids might be like, ‘That’s a you thing, Mom, like, keep me – I don’t even want to be on camera.”

Rihanna and A$AP have been dating since 2020 and she said their eldest son is already showing interest in keeping a low profile.

The singer said: “That’s how RZA acts right now. He loves his reflection, but the minute he sees me with my phone, he’s like, I’m not entertaining you. Nope, nope.”

Rihanna’s remarks come as she gushed over A$AP for being a “great, patient, loving” father to their two boys.

She told Access Hollywood: “I loved him differently as a dad. This is major, major like, it’s a turn-on. It’s just like, ‘Wow! What a leader, what a great, patient, loving (dad.)’”

John Stamos admits having a family helped him ‘straighten up’

John Stamos says having a family helped him “straighten up”.

The ‘Full House’ actor, 60, admitted he spiralled into a dark place after his mum Loretta died in 2014 aged 75, and said the passing of his dad Bill in 1998 also pushed him into a “rough period” years later.

John, who has five-year-old son Billy with his 37-year-old actress wife Caitlin McHugh, told Dave Coulier’s new PodCo series ‘Full House Rewind’: “I went through a rough period for a while there, like, I had a rough run of it.

“I lost my dad and that was very hard on me, and losing my mother – I was a amess, and I wasn’t being the guy they would have been proud of in that moment.”

John also referenced his DUI arrest in 2015, which he has previously described as the “worst moment of my life”.

He added: “I ended up getting a DUI… and I said, ‘I’ve got to straighten up here’.”

John said his depression was so deep he thought he had “done it all” in life – until he realised he lacked a family.

He added: “During my dark time I was so stupid to think, ‘I’ve done it all… the sitcom… .’

“I hadn’t done it all. I didn’t have a child or a family of my own.”

In October, John insisted he wasn’t trying to take his own life when he got behind the wheel before his DUI arrest, but admitted he was in a “stupid” place at the time.

During an appearance on Good Morning America, he told hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Lara Spencer it was “hard” to write about the offence in his new memoir, ‘If You Would Have Told Me’.

He said: “I didn’t want to kill myself but in my stupid foggy head I said, ‘Well if I die, it’s okay, I’ve done everything… I’ve got a sitcom, I’ve played with The Beach Boys…’ what a fool.

“No, it was hard. I set out to write a hero’s story, I was like, ‘I did this, I did that’… and it turned into a human story.”

S Club star Tina Barrett buys all her presents on Christmas Eve

S Club star Tina Barrett does all her gift buying on Christmas Eve.

The 47-year-old singer – who has seven-year-old son Roman from a previous relationship – admitted she has too many other things to think about leading up to Christmas Day so her shopping often slides by the wayside and she doesn’t get out until 24 December.

She told BANG Showbiz: “Christmas Eve is when I do my Christmas shopping. I have done that a few times, it’s awful. I have kids, so Elf on the Shelf is a big deal.”

And Tina admitted having a child of her own has helped her rediscover the magic of the festive season.

Asked if parenthood has made Christmas better, she said: “It is, because you sort of live [it] through their eyes and it’s just like, ‘I feel like a kid now reliving all of the childhood again’. It’s nice.”

Band member Jo O’Meara agreed: “Christmas comes back when you have kids!”

Meanwhile, the group – which also includes Rachel Stevens, Jon Lee and Bradley McIntosh listed their “epic” comeback tour as their highlight of 2023.

Asked the best moment of the year, Rachel said: “The tour was pretty epic!”

Jon added: “We were here about six weeks ago at the O2 on a Saturday night and it was sold out, and it was the best show we have ever done.”

Bradley then revealed that the band won’t be resting for too long over the festive period, as they would be setting off for another round of tours soon.

He said: “We are going to America in February, so we will be back again soon on the road together.”

Experts invent death calculator to predict when people pass away

Scientists have built a calculator that predicts when a person will die.

The algorithm uses information about a person’s health, education, job, income, addresses and working patterns to establish how long they will live and when they pass away.

It has been constructed by scientists in Denmark and the United States and is said to be accurate 79 per cent of the time – far more successful than the “actuarial life tables” used by insurers that have an accuracy rate of 55.5 per cent.

Sune Lehmann Jorgensen, from the Technical University of Denmark, said: “We used the model to address to what extent can we predict events in your future based on conditions and events in your past.”

However, further studies are needed before the algorithm can assess an “individual’s risk of contracting a disease”.

Monkeys yield to peer pressure

Monkeys give in to peer pressure.

A nine-year study conducted on Vervet monkeys has revealed that social traditions are transferred through different communities of animals.

Boffins from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and Paul Sabatier University in France say that male monkeys who join more sociable communities must adapt quickly to match the social styles of the group.

Almost 250 Vervet monkeys in South Africa were studied and the experts found that those from the Ankhase (AK) community were more likely to return the favour if they were groomed by other monkeys.

The study’s lead author Elena Kerjean said: “We found that individuals in one group – AK – display significantly more affiliative behaviours than in the two other groups, and this difference was stable over nine years of study.”

Prince William nicknamed ‘One-Pint Willy’ by cousin

Prince-William-nicknamed

Prince William’s cousin-in-law has nicknamed him “One-Pint Willy”.

The royal, 41, got the moniker from Mike Tindall, who is married to William’s cousin Zara, as he is “not the best” at drinking, according to the rugby star.

Mike, 45, told Rob Burrow’s podcast, on which he appeared alongside his 42-year-old wife: “For the Prince of Wales, he is known as ‘One-Pint Willy’. He is known to me as ‘One-Pint Willy’ because he’s not the best of drinkers.

“Coming from (rugby) where it’s built on the social aspect and a couple of beers being sunk quite often.

“So, that is one that I will definitely give away for the Prince of Wales, One-Pint Willy, there you go.”

Mike then apologised for putting the royal’s family nickname in public.

Zara looked embarrassed by her husband’s confession as she replied: “Oh my god, you’re in so much trouble.”

Mike, who is a close friend of William’s, laughed it off and said: “Sorry, sorry sir!”

He also shared the pet name he and his wife call one another, admitting:

“We basically call each other ‘Munchkins’ a lot, don’t we? Or ‘My Love’.

“I normally use Munchkin, don’t know why that started but it has stuck and it stays!”

Zara admitted that she has another two-word nickname that her husband is saved as on her phone which ends in “kitten”, but stayed tight-lipped on the whole name.

Rob Burrow’s podcast is available to listen to on BBC Sounds.

Dogs with dark eyes are seen as more friendly

Dogs are seen as less threatening if they have dark eyes.

Experts believe that humans could have driven their popularity as man’s best friend descended from wolves over thousands of years of domestication.

Yellow is the most common eye colour for wolves and a team from Teikyo University of Science in Japan collected 22 images of grey wolves and 81 pictures of domestic pooches from different breeds.

They then gathered 12 pictures of dogs including Labrador Retrievers and Welsh Corgis and “recoloured” their eyes to be dark or yellow.

76 participants were asked to rate the images and it was revealed that canines with darker eyes were considered to be friendlier and less threatening than the same dogs with lighter-coloured eyes.

Researcher Dr. Akitsugu Konno said: “We speculate that a darker iris makes it more difficult to distinguish the size of the pupil and thus gives the illusion of a large pupil, which is associated with our perception of being more infant-like.”

Queen Camilla pays tribute to late friend Paul O’Grady on radio special

Queen Camilla pays a special tribute to her late friend Paul O’Grady in an upcoming radio special.

Friends of the TV legend – who passed away in March aged 67 – will celebrate his life with a special edition of Boom Radio on Christmas Day (25.12.23), the station he hosted an annual festive episode for 14 years.

King Charles’ wife was deeply fond of the ‘For The Love of Dogs’ presenter and the 76-year-old royal is a patron of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where animal-lover and ambassador Paul spent many hours checking in on the animals at the shelter.

Camilla’s tribute read out at a memorial to the star in October will be revealed by his pal and neighbour, comedian Julian Clary, 64.

It read: “I miss Paul very much. I had the pleasure of knowing him for many years, laughing at his waspish way with words and endlessly touched by the kindness of his heart.

“He was the most welcome guest at any event, from glamorous parties to private visits to our beloved Battersea, and was loved by one and all.

“Perhaps this is no surprise. After all, there are no finer judges of character than dogs, and about Paul, they were unanimous in their devotion, as were we all.”

‘Paul O’Grady The Musical Celebration’ will also feature touching tributes from his daughter Sharon Mousley,49, comedian Dawn French, 66, and actress Amanda Mealing, 56.

Following Paul’s sudden passing, a photo was posted on Twitter of them together during an event at Battersea on the Royal Family’s Twitter account and was captioned: “Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Paul O’Grady, who worked closely with Her Majesty in support of @Battersea_, providing lots of laughter and many waggy-tailed memories.”

Paul’s husband Andre Portasio confirmed his partner died “unexpectedly and peacefully”.

He said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.

“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

“I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years.”

Eating chocolate improves a woman’s mood

Chocolate makes middle-aged women happy.

A new study has revealed that tucking into the treat every day for eight weeks was linked to reduced feelings of negativity, depression and anxiety.

The antioxidant flavanols in cocoa beans can prevent cell damage, disrupting hormones and brain signals.

In the research, 60 healthy women aged between 40 and 60 were given a chocolate drink or one that tasted the same but with no cocoa.

After two months, cocoa drinkers scored better on the mood scale and also felt that both their friendliness and energy were boosted.

Professor Masakazu Terauchi, of Tokyo Medical and Dental University, said: “Our results suggest in middle-aged women, cacao extract reduces depression, fatigue and anxiety and improves positive mood.

“Cacao flavanols may be a useful food that can improve middle-aged women’s mood.”
