A married couple have been arrested on suspicion of spying for Ukraine in connection with a defense industry company in Nizhny Tagil. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the FSB in the Sverdlovsk region.
“The illegal activities of a married couple involved in high treason in the form of espionage against one of the enterprises of the military-industrial complex in the region have been stopped,” the ministry said in a statement.
The FSB clarified that a criminal case has been opened and is being investigated under article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“high treason”). The court chose a coercive measure for the suspects in the form of detention.
Earlier, the special service had arrested Evan Gershkovich, a journalist for the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), in Yekaterinburg, on suspicion of espionage. The court chose for him a measure of constraint in the form of detention until May 29, 2023.
