Bolsonaro testifies in Saudi jewelry case

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro testified in the case of jewelry he and his ministers had previously received from Saudi authorities. The words of the former head of state are published by the newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo.

Upon learning of this in December 2022, he said, the then-president was seeking information on the matter to avoid perceived diplomatic embarrassment if the gifts were auctioned off.

The jewels were found in luggage when Bolsonaro and his ministers returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia. The cost of the products was estimated at 3 million euros. Brazil’s Chamber of Accounts ordered Bolsonaro to hand over gifts to the state.

While Jair Bolsonaro is considered a witness in this case. However, it is possible that the investigating authorities see his actions as signs of theft using his official position.

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said before returning to the country that he had no plans to become Brazil’s opposition leader.
