Benefits of xenon: Safe driving at night

Many people underestimate the safety that headlights provide, both for seeing the road ahead and for watching out for pedestrians or other potential obstacles.

Only 25% of drivers drive on the roads at night. Despite this, accidents at night represent 50% of the total number of car accidents. Xenon headlights, also known as high-density discharge headlights or HID headlights, provide two to three times more light than halogen headlights and improve driving visibility for people traveling by car.

Xenon headlights create wider beams of light that illuminate more evenly, allowing drivers to see the road better and are virtually immune to shock and vibration.

These headlamps also help drivers feel comfortable. The light emitted is very similar to natural sunlight, reducing eye strain. In fact, older drivers who need more light than younger drivers benefit the most from xenon headlights.

But most drivers buy these headlights not only for their personal safety, but also for other reasons; xenon headlights also help reduce energy consumption.

The benefits of xenon go beyond its ability to provide fairly safe driving at night, as xenon reduces environmental impact by being an energy efficient light source.

The headlights consume less energy than halogen headlights, which leaves more energy for other vehicle functions. Xenon provides 90 lumens per watt versus 22 lumens per watt for halogen, providing more light with less energy.

Lumen is a unit of measurement for luminous flux in the International System of Units of Measurement, a measure of the perceived power of light. The watts saved by increasing the number of lumens also corresponds to less fuel consumption, which slightly reduces the cost of fuel for consumers.

Xenon headlights are also more durable, providing over 3,000 hours in a car compared to 1,000 hours of halogen headlights.

Small changes can make a big difference. If drivers buy cars with xenon headlights, it can improve their own safety and fuel efficiency.
