Eminent Bengali litterateur Samaresh Majumdar passed away

Kolkata. Eminent Bengali litterateur Samaresh Majumdar passed away on Monday. He was 79 years old.

Mr. Majumdar’s political works ‘Uttaradhikar’, ‘Kalbela’ and ‘Kalpurush’ were very popular. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for ‘Kalbela’, the fiery writing of the then Naxalite movement in Bengal. Among his other notable works are ‘Garbhadharini’, ‘Sihbahini’ and ‘Kolikatai Navakumar’. In the year 2018, the Government of West Bengal also honored him with ‘Banga Vibhushan’.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed Mr. Majumdar’s death as an irreparable loss to the literary world. He also expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. Bharatiya Janata Party state president Sukanta Majumdar said, “Deeply saddened to know about the demise of renowned Bengali writer Samaresh Majumdar. My deepest condolences to his family and well wishers. May God give peace to his departed soul.
