‘We know the way the probe is going’: Sibal on probe into allegations against WFI chief

Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal on Tuesday raised doubts about the impartiality of the ongoing investigation against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh into allegations of sexual harassment of women wrestlers.

Senior advocate Sibal has represented the wrestlers in the Supreme Court. He tweeted, “Investigation into the sexual abuse of wrestlers: Some investigations move towards punishing the accused and some towards saving the accused. The way this investigation is going on, we know.

The Delhi Police on Friday told a special court here that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe allegations of sexual harassment leveled by women wrestlers against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Singh. The police had given this information in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal.

The court had earlier directed the police to file a status report. The Delhi Police has also recorded the statements of Wrestling Federation of India chief Singh and Vinod Tomar, assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India. Delhi Police had registered two cases against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh last month.

The first FIR relates to allegations made by a minor in which a case has been registered under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code. Whereas, the second FIR pertains to allegations of sexual harassment leveled by adults.
