Truck driver who crashed into White House fence is charged with attempted assassination of Biden

A man who drove a Nazi swastika truck that crashed into a White House fence has been arrested and charged with attempting to kill or injure the president, Interior Department police said Tuesday. the United States.

The driver appears to have deliberately rammed into a parking attendant in Lafayette Park around 10:00 p.m. ET. Police said in a statement that no one was injured in the incident.

President Joe Biden was briefed on the situation Tuesday morning, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.

“He is happy that no one was injured last night and is grateful to the officers and law enforcement who responded so quickly,” Jean-Pierre said.

Park police said Sai Varshit Kandula, a 19-year-old Missouri resident, was driving the truck. He was charged with “assault with a life-threatening weapon, reckless driving, threatening to kill, kidnap or harm the president, vice president or a member of their family, damage to federal property and ‘intrusion”.
