Already three deaths on Sunday in Potsdam

Three senior citizens of Potsdam had died as a result of an infection with the novel coronavirus by Sunday evening. A 78-year-old man died on Saturday night, the town hall said. The deceased in the Bergmann Clinic had severe previous illnesses, it said. Last Thursday and Friday, an 88- and an 80-year-old infected person had died. “This virus is dangerous and we are far from being given the all-clear. The top priority must continue to be the reduction of personal contacts and the protection of pre-ill and older people, “said Mayor Mike Schubert (SPD).

The number of sick people in the hospital and in St. Joseph’s Hospital has also increased. On Sunday, at 2:30 p.m., there were 28 people, ten of whom were in intensive care. Four days earlier, 14 people were still in the hospital. At the same time, the number of Corona cases registered in Potsdam continues to increase. On Friday afternoon, the health department still counted 87 infected people; on Sunday, at 2:30 p.m., there were already 109 people.

This doubled the number of sufferers within five days. However, the number of unreported cases is likely to be higher, among other things because the results of tests are only available after days, since, as reported, the laboratories hardly comply with the evaluation.

In addition, more than 550 Potsdam residents are at home in suspected cases, and the health department checks their health every day.

Expansion of childcare

Meanwhile, the city administration announced on Sunday that the country’s expansion of emergency childcare would be implemented immediately – among other things, there is now a right to a daycare or daycare place if even one parent works in a so-called systemically relevant profession. The applications are now available on the website www.potsdam.de/corona.
