Short-term measures for homeless people in pandemic

Wiesbaden – The health spokeswoman for the parliamentary group Die Linke im Hessisches Landtag, Christiane Bohm, has called for short-term measures for homeless and homeless people in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Emergency ambulances and shelters would have to be provided with adequate protective equipment, she said in Wiesbaden on Wednesday. “We need to give everyone adequate, secure housing, access to hygiene products and healthcare right away,” she said. In addition, a rapid expansion of the emergency shelters is necessary in order to enable individual accommodations and to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

In view of the financial consequences of short-time work, especially for people with low incomes, new homelessness must be prevented, by all means, said Bohm.

“Homelessness is not a freely chosen way of life,” emphasized Stefan Gillich, head of the working group on poverty and social integration. “Instead of experiencing exclusion, these people need our special protection.”
