Munich – club president Herbert Hainer has emphasized the importance of Thomas Muller for FC Bayern. “Thomas Muller is an identification figure, a symbol for FC Bayern Munich,” the 65-year-old praised the former international in a video interview.

Muller’s contract extension until the summer of 2023 with the German football record champions had been announced the day before. “He has just blossomed again under Hansi Flick in the past few months,” said Hainer about the 30-year-old professional.

Hainer described the coronavirus crisis as a touchstone. For the Bundesliga and the clubs, it was a “major economic challenge,” he said. “But we all have to stand together during this time.” The “somewhat stronger clubs” should “support the somewhat weaker clubs”.
