FRANKFURT – Who belongs to the Eintracht Frankfurt eleven of the decade ending December 31? You could make it easy for yourself and nominate the complete starting eleven of the Bundesliga team, which won the 2018 cup with a 3-1 win in the final against Bayern Munich – the first title win in 30 years and thus clearly the event of the decade. In fact, with goalkeeper Lukas Hredecky, defenders David Abraham and Danny da Costa, midfield players Makoto Hasebe and Omar Mascarell and strikers Ante Rebic and Kevin-Prince Boateng, there were candidates with good chances of a place in the SBU dream team of the years 2011 to 2020. And substitutes Sebastien Haller, Mijat Gacinovic and Marco Russ are also eligible for nomination, as is coach Niko Kovac.
At the bottom of the page, you can vote directly for your team of the decade
The sports editorial team calls on readers to put together their team of the decade with a trainer – and is very excited about the result. The names of the eagles on this page that are suitable for the goal, defence, midfield and storm are just suggestions from the editors. For example, if you think that cup winner Marius Wolf belongs in the best-of selection, Goncalo Paciencia or the Brazilian Caio, you can also nominate these and other players for his “Eleven of the Decade”.
One thing is clear: there has been a lot going on at Frankfurt Eintracht in the past ten years: relegation from the Bundesliga after the “second half of shame” in 2011; the direct resurgence under coach Armin Veh the following year and qualification for the Europa League at the end of the 2012/13 season; the 2016 relegation, which was only prevented by Haris Seferovic’s goal in the relegation second leg in the 1-0 win in Nuremberg; the cup finals in 2017 and 2018 with the legendary victory against the record champion, which was followed by two very successful Europa League seasons.
Four Eintracht experts from the editorial team have already nominated their teams on this page. And there are five players each time: Makoto Hasebe, Sebastian Rode, Filip Kostic, Alex Meier and Ante Rebic. For the quartet, it was also clear: Niko Kovac has no way around choosing the best coach.
