Girona – The three-time Ironman world champion Jan Frodeno wants to start his triathlon in his own four walls for a good cause with a donation of 10,000 euros. “And it will certainly not have been the last donation,” said the 38-year-old in an interview with “bild.de”.
This Saturday, Frodeno wants to swim 3.86 kilometers in his counter-current pool, cycle 180.2 kilometers on a roller and run 42.2 kilometers on the treadmill – a complete Ironman distance. He lives in Girona with his wife Emma (née Snowsill, triathlon Olympic champion 2008) and the two children and is therefore directly affected by the curfew in Spain.
“At the moment, nurses, doctors, firefighters and police officers are our ironmen, who do a real endurance game,” said Frodeno in the interview.
He also found clear words for footballers who are not ready to forego salary during these times. «Of course, as an athlete, you only have a very limited lifetime for your career. But cutting 25 percent of a contract is less than my forecast default this year, ”said Frodeno.
«First of all, the question is who all has a role model function. But now it is the chance for such guys, who are also heroes for many, to show that the situation affects us all together, and there are good examples of that. »
