Venezuela announces terrorist invasion from Colombia

“A group of terrorist mercenaries from Colombia tried to carry out an invasion from the sea in order to carry out terrorist acts in the country, killing the leaders of the revolutionary government,” said the country’s Interior Minister.

According to him, saboteurs arrived on the coast of La Guaira, about 32 km from Caracas on speed boats on Sunday morning.

The leader of the Socialist Party, Diosdado Cabello, reported that eight people were killed and two were detained during the incident.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino added that one of the speed boats sank.

The Foreign Ministry of Colombia called the statement by the Maduro government about the invasion “unfounded.” Diplomats from a neighbouring country believe that the Venezuelan authorities are trying in this way to divert attention from the “true problems that the Venezuelan people live with.”

The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, Juan Guaido, who the US and EU countries consider the legitimate president of Venezuela, also expressed a similar point of view. In particular, Guaido said the government is trying to divert public attention from the recent violent events that occurred on Friday and Saturday in Caracas.

Recall that on January 23, 2019, in Venezuela, mass protests against the regime of Nicolas Maduro flared up with renewed vigour. Two weeks earlier, Maduro’s inauguration for another presidential term took place. At a rally of many thousands in Caracas, the head of the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, took the oath of office of the interim president of Venezuela.

The United States was the first to recognize him as the legitimate head of state. Nearly 50 countries followed the decision of the United States.

On March 12, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreasa announced that the government was giving 72 hours to United States diplomats to leave the territory of a South American country.
