Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

UN Secretary-General does not see WHO replacement

Against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic COVID-19, the World Health Organization (WHO) is an indispensable tool for responding to the crisis, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Monday.

“WHO is indispensable. It needs more resources, especially in order to support developing countries, which should be our main concern,” Guterres said at the beginning of the World Health Assembly video summit, adding that attention to the COVID-19 pandemic in developing countries – This is not “charity”, but a matter of global security.

He pointed out the need to understand why coronavirus could spread so quickly around the world in order to prepare for similar potential crises in the future.

Trump reportedly suspended US contributions to WHO on April 14, accusing the organization of promoting Chinese “misinformation” about an outbreak of coronavirus. If the US payment matches the contribution of China, then, as noted by the channel, its new level of financing will be approximately one-tenth of the previous amount of financing, amounting to $ 400 million per year.

Trump was later announced that the United States would “ agree to pay as much as China’s contributions.”
