Liverpool won their last league title in 1990, since then Croatia has been formed and reached the World Cup finals in 2018. The title drought finally ended for the Merseyside club as Chelsea beat second-placed Manchester City by 2-1 during game week 31, thereby crowing Liverpool as the Champions of England after 30 years. This is Reds first Premier League title since its inception in 1991.
The club manager Jurgen Klopp played a primary role in Liverpool’s triumph. Klopp joined Liverpool in 2015 after having an illuminating career at Borussia Dortmund. Since day one, the German Manager has implemented his philosophy on the team. Although, it took him three years to win his first silverware with the club. It’s never too late especially when you get hold of Premier League trophy after 30 years.
What Jurgen Klopp has achieved with Liverpool portrays his consummating managerial abilities. And it also brings light to the sceptical dominance of Guardiola in world Football. Pep Guardiola is a renowned name in Football and regards as one of the best managers in the world. He started his managerial career with Barcelona then went to Bayern Munich and currently managing Manchester City. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s Spain, Germany or England Guardiola has dominated in all the three countries.
English Premier League is considered the most competitive league in the world. When Klopp joined struggling Liverpool in 2015 and Guardiola joined settled Manchester City in 2016 the battle for dominance in the premier league double folded. Guardiola caused havoc in the premier league with his tiki-taka football and won Premier league in 2017-18 with record most points (100points) and won the domestic treble in 2018-19 season. However, in the process, Guardiola has spent a shitload of money. He has spent almost 762.3 million Euros and signed 30 players during his first four years at Manchester City. In his first four seasons at Manchester City, he has won seven trophies but failed to win the UEFA Champions League.
On the other hand, Klopp in his first season at club guided Liverpool to first European final since 2007 which they lost to Sevilla by 3-1 in the UEFA Europa League finals. Liverpool reached the finals of UEFA Champions League in 2017-18 season. Again they lost a European final. Real Madrid overpowered them in the finals and won by 3-1. Liverpool’s goalkeeper Loris Karius disasters performance was the highlight of the finals. As a result, he was released by the club next season. Twelve months fast forward, and Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League by beating English rivals Tottenham Hotspurs in the finals. And now adding the silverware, Liverpool are the Champions of England.
Klopp has guided Liverpool to European final every year they played in European competition. He can inspire and build a champion team without spending millions, whereas when it comes to Guardiola, he requires millions to create champions. Also, when talking silverware, one cannot neglect UEFA Champions League trophy which pep has failed to deliver with Manchester City.
What Jurgen Klopp has achieved with no or little money at Liverpool gives him an upper hand in considering him as the best manager in the world.
