Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

American special forces soldier admits to working for Russian intelligence

A former member of the US Army Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets, Peter Rafael Dzibinski Debbins (Peter Debbins)  has admitted to working for Russian intelligence. The message was published on Wednesday, November 18, by the US Department of Justice.

“Debbins betrayed the trust of the state and betrayed his fellow soldiers by conspiring to provide information about the US national defense to Russian intelligence officers,” – said a statement by US Attorney Zachary Terwilliger.

According to American law enforcement officials, Debbins worked for Russia from 1996 to 2011. Even after his retirement, the former special forces soldier maintained his contacts with Russian intelligence; he visited the Russian Federation and even allegedly signed a statement that he would like to serve Russia.

The prosecution claims that the ex-special forces soldier disclosed classified information about his previous service and gave Russian intelligence officers the names of his former colleagues.

The verdict on the Green Beret is due on February 26, 2021. The maximum punishment that Debbins faces is life imprisonment.
