German journalists believe that hypersonic weapons could upset the balance between the countries possessing nuclear weapons, as well as interfere with the course of disarmament negotiations.
Finally, the article notes that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is not worried about American developments in the hypersonic sphere. Russia has effective defense systems – the new generation S-500 anti-aircraft missile system and the “modernized interceptor missile”.
Earlier, the director of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Ermakov, said that about ten states are now in a race for hypersonic weapons. “There is nothing new in this – the competitive evolution of weapons systems goes back many hundreds of years,” the diplomat said. He added that now the United States has decided by all means to achieve an advantage in the military sphere.
