Protests in Austria against Coronavirus restrictions – “Curz must go”

Thousands took to the streets of Vienna today to protest restrictive measures aimed at cracking down on the coronavirus pandemic after Chancellor Sebastian Kurz’s government discussed extending the measures.

Protesters, mostly without protective masks, carried banners reading “Curz must go”.

Austria, a country with about 8.9 million inhabitants, is in the third blockade, and only grocery stores are open.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Austria, close to 390,000 people have been infected, while almost 7,000 have died.

Public health experts said after a meeting with government officials that the infection rate was too high to consider easing the restrictions.

The government will announce the next steps in the fight against the coronavirus tomorrow.
