Russia will react to new sanctions from the European Union due to the situation around opposition leader Alexei Navalny. This said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko.
“The reaction will be from our side,” Grushko said.
The diplomat noted that Brussels’ decision to approve sanctions in the Navalny case was not unexpected for Moscow.
“This is not a surprise for us. The EU continues to follow an absolutely illegal path, this is an absolutely dead-end path that has a destructive effect on bilateral relations and in no way meets the interests of the European countries themselves, ”the Deputy Minister said.
Earlier it became known that new anti-Russian sanctions due to Navalny have already been agreed at the level of the ambassadors of the EU member states. We are talking about the introduction of restrictive measures against citizens of the Russian Federation – presumably, heads of law enforcement agencies. The decision will come into force after it is approved by the EU Council and published.
