Navalny Case – EU imposes sanctions against Russian security officials

The leadership of the European Union imposed personal sanctions against Russian citizens due to the situation around opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

“High-ranking officials” fell under the restrictive measures. Among them, in particular, were the director of the Federal Service of the National Guard of the Russian Federation (Rosgvardia) Viktor Zolotov, the Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, and the head of the Federal Service for the Execution of Punishments Alexander Kalashnikov.

The document has already been adopted and will soon be published in the official journal of the EU Council.

It was also reported about the US intention to impose sanctions against Russia on the same occasion. According to media reports, they will affect 10 Russian officials.

Meanwhile, earlier the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called the anti-Russian sanctions ineffective and suggested that the initiators of their introduction think about it. And Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov promised a response to the introduction of restrictive measures on the principle of reciprocity.
