Turkish Defense Minister: We have a common history with Egypt and we appreciate its positive steps

On Saturday, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar appreciated Egypt’s respect for the Turkish continental shelf during its exploration activities in the eastern Mediterranean, stressing that this is an important development.

In statements, Akar stressed that Turkey and Egypt have common historical and cultural values, expressing his confidence that the activation of these values ​​can be reflected in the occurrence of various developments in the coming days.

The Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu confirmed that “Turkey and Egypt may negotiate the demarcation of the borders in the eastern Mediterranean if circumstances permit.”

Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu added in televised statements: “We can sign an agreement with Egypt by negotiating marine spaces according to the course of our relations.”.

Pointing out that Egypt “respected the southern borders of our continental shelf, even after signing an agreement with Greece, and that Egypt carried out its activities without violating our borders, and we consider this a positive step.”
