Baghdad summit.. “The Arab League” rejects sectarianism, and Saudi Arabia affirms its support for Iraq’s stability

In his speech at the “Baghdad Cooperation and Partnership” conference, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan stressed that what the region is witnessing calls for raising the level of coordination between its countries.

Farhan stressed that Riyadh spares no effort in supporting Iraq at all levels, noting that his country supports the government of President Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to ensure the unity and stability of Iraq.

The Saudi foreign minister praised the Iraqi government’s role in controlling the weapons that are in the hands of the militias. He said: “There is an economic openness between the two countries and a joint fund has been established, in addition to the Arar crossing will constitute an economic tributary with Iraq.”

On Saturday, Iraq will host a conference on “cooperation and partnership”, the most prominent of which is French President Emmanuel Macron, and includes a number of countries in the region.

Also participating in this summit are French President Emmanuel Macron, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Through the conference, Iraq hopes to obtain support to restore security and economic stability and enhance its regional role.

The high-level summit meeting in Baghdad is a major boost for Iraq and its top leadership, as it sends a message of Arab solidarity with the country, which has been increasingly drawn into Iran’s orbit in recent years.

Iraq has suffered a lot

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian said that Iraq plays an important role in the region, indicating that his country supports Iraq’s security and stability.

In his speech at the conference, Abdul-Lahban added: “Iran was the first country in the region to recognize the new Iraq.” “Iraq has been greatly affected by the emergence of terrorist groups, and Tehran has provided support to Iraq in its fight,” he added.

And he expressed his country’s welcome to Iraq’s role in spreading the language of dialogue. He also praised the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

While the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that Iraq has suffered greatly over the past decades, stressing that Baghdad fought a war against terrorism that cost it a lot in defense of humanity.

He pointed out that Iraq does not stand alone in facing challenges and supporting it is a duty. “We do not want Iraq to become an arena for conflicts,” he said. He affirmed the League’s support for Iraq’s efforts to build new relations with the countries of the region.

He stressed that it is time for sectarianism to be eradicated from the countries of the region and for peace and stability to prevail.

While the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Youssef bin Ahmed, stressed, on Saturday, that Iraq is on the verge of a new stage of construction and development, calling for its support regionally and internationally without interfering in its internal affairs.

Bin Ahmed said, in his speech during the Baghdad conference, that “Saudi Arabia encourages partnership efforts of all kinds with Iraq, reconstruction, defeating terrorism and extremism, and cooperating with everyone on issues that it shares with the international community,” according to the Iraqi News Agency, “conscious.”

He explained that “Iraq stands today on a new stage, which is the stage of construction and development, which calls for its support regionally and internationally, without interfering in its internal affairs and options,” calling “the countries of the Arab and Islamic region and international institutions to support Iraq in the context of respecting its sovereignty over its land and people and a serious response to its sincere call in share”.

In turn, UAE Energy Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei said that the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership is an important step on the road to Iraq’s return to its regional and international surroundings, stressing his country’s permanent position on Iraq.

Al Mazrouei said in his speech: “The international presence at the conference expresses Iraq’s support, and the conference is an important step on the road to Iraq’s return to its regional and international surroundings.”
