Washington / TEH: Â On Tuesday, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia announced a plan to cooperate on the development of hypersonic and anti-hypersonic weapons.
The announcement came after a virtual meeting between US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as part of the emerging trilateral security agreement between the three countries known as “AUKUS“.
In a joint statement, the leaders said that in addition to expanding the agreement to include the development of hypersonic weapons, they would cooperate in electronic warfare capabilities, enhance “information exchange ” and “deepen cooperation in defense innovation.”
“These initiatives will add to our existing efforts to deepen cooperation in cyber capabilities, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and additional undersea capabilities,” the statement said.
“As our work progresses on these critical defense and security capabilities and others, we will seek opportunities to engage allies and close partners,” he added.
It should be noted that last year, the countries of Australia, the United States and Britain announced a tripartite alliance called “AUKUS”, which is seen as another attempt to counter China’s growing economic and military influence in the region.
The agreement angered several countries, led by China, Russia and North Korea.
China warned that the alliance risks “serious damage to regional peace and intensifying the arms race”.
