Rome/TEH:  The leaders of the Group of Seven, the European Union and the member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization “NATO” announced their unanimity to expand Russia’s international isolation, including the adoption of additional sanctions due to the war in Ukraine.

According to a statement issued by the Italian Prime Minister, on Tuesday, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi held a video conference with his British counterparts Boris Johnson, Canadian Justin Trudeau, Japanese Fumio Kishida, Romanian Klaus Iohannis, US Presidents Joe Biden, France Emmanuel Macron, and Poland Andrzej Duda, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

During the meeting, the leaders expressed their deep concern over the continuation of hostilities, stressing the need to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible in order to end the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

They stressed the importance of close coordination on supporting Ukraine at all levels, especially the budget.

The statement indicated that there is a broad consensus on the need to increase pressure on the Kremlin and expand Moscow’s international isolation, including the adoption of additional sanctions.

The statement also stressed the joint commitment to diversify energy resources, pointing out that this would reduce dependence on Russian resources.

And on February 24, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine , followed by international rejection and severe economic sanctions against Moscow, which stipulate to end its operation that Kyiv abandon plans to join military entities and remain neutral, which the latter considers an “interference in its sovereignty.”
