Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Plenković: Croatia is in favor of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković is taking part in an extraordinary summit of the European Union, where representatives of member states are discussing several topics, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine , energy prices and security of supply, but also cooperation in the field of security.

–  Croatia has consistent support for Ukraine in condemning Russian aggression by striving to give maximum support to Ukraine through political, diplomatic, economic and other forms – said Plenković.

Speaking about the sixth package of sanctions against Russia , Plenković said that it would go to lower levels of decision-making of the EU Council and that it would consist of putting additional people on lists, measures against certain media houses spreading propaganda, and oil [Russian oil] and a traffic ban agreement.

Earlier today, European Union members are working to reach an agreement during the talks between officials on a new package of sanctions against Russia , including restrictions on Russian oil imports, said European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell Fontelles.

–  As for the issue of food security and defense, the fact that Ukraine, which is the granary of Europe and a good part of the world, produces grain for many countries. The issue is the export and emptying of Ukrainian warehouses in order to distribute that grain in the world and avoid the situation of food shortages, hunger, and potential conflicts in African countries, and the issue of defense is strengthening joint efforts in terms of procurement and cooperation of humanitarian resources, said Plenković.

He pointed out that the Croatian position was clear.

–  We are in favor of the sixth package of sanctions, the gradual abandonment of the use of fossil fuels and we are in favor of creating an alternative network that will provide everyone with supply routes. When it comes to oil, nothing will change until the end of the year, we are talking about transition periods in 2023 – said the Croatian Prime Minister.
