A severe storm hit western Serbia: Destroyed roads, locals fear landslides

A strong storm followed by heavy rain did not bypass western Serbia again. Huge amounts of water caused the greatest material damage this time to the road infrastructure, mostly in rural areas in the municipalities of Ivanjica and Arilje. After the cessation of precipitation, it is feared that individual landslides will start.

– In almost all 19 local communities we have reported damage to road infrastructure. The municipality of Ivanjica will send a commission to the field on Monday. All the damage is on the macadam roads, but also on many asphalt roads, there is a lot of applied material due to the torrents that flowed on the roads. As soon as it rains, we will start repairing the damaged roads – Momčilo Mitrović, the mayor of Ivanjica, told RINA, Blic reports .

The situation is similar in the municipality of Arilje, whose residents have already suffered great damage from the storm in the previous days, especially the city that decimated the raspberry genus.

– Fortunately, there was no city in Arilje this time. However, the road infrastructure suffered the most in the local communities of Visoka, Bjeluša, Brekovo, and Trešnjevica. After the stabilization of the weather, the competent team will carry out activities to repair the damage – said Predrag Maslar, mayor of Arilje.

During the evening, the storm hit Čačak and the territory of the municipality of Lučane, where, according to President Milivoje Dolović, the damage was also caused to the road infrastructure.
