The west and G7 leaders want Ukraine to remain in the war against Russia

Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) industrial powers have pledged to support Ukraine “as long as it takes.”

In a joint statement issued Monday after the session via video link with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy , the leaders stressed their “unwavering commitment to support the government and people of Ukraine in their courageous defense of their country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

They added , “it is up to Ukraine to decide on a future peace settlement, free from external pressure or influence.”

Leaders of the leading democratic industrial powers have vowed to “continue to provide financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support to Ukraine for as long as necessary.”

They will continue to explore new ways of isolating Russia from participation in the world market and “are determined to reduce Russian revenues, including those from the sale of gold.”

The leaders added that Russia must comply with international obligations, including a ban on the use of chemical biological and nuclear weapons, and expressed “serious concern” over Russia’s announcement that it would send missiles with nuclear capabilities to its close ally Belarus.
