Highland Park parade shooting: “It looked like a war zone, it was terrible”, a witness told the moments of horror

In Highland Park, a wealthy suburb of Chicago, the United States, there was a shooting today at the July 4 – Independence Day parade, when at least six people were killed and 24 others were wounded.

The attacker allegedly fired from the roof of the former equipment store. He aimed at people in the crowd who at first thought it was fireworks. As reported by CNN, the attacker is between 18 and 20 years old and has long black hair.

The shooting began less than 15 minutes after the start of the parade, and witnesses described moments of horror.

– I thought something was wrong. I grabbed my dad and started running. Suddenly everyone behind us started running. I looked back probably 20 feet away. I saw a girl shot and killed. It looked like a war zone, and that’s scary. It was really scary – Zoe told CNN .

Witnesses said that several bullets were fired quickly and in succession, stating that this could only have come from an automatic weapon. A witness to the shooting was 74-year-old lawyer Majls Zaremski, who has lived in Highland Park since 1966.
