A strong earthquake hits Afghanistan, at least 1000 injured

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 hits Afghanistan, a country where 1,200 people died in the earthquake on June 22 , Anadolu (AA) reports.

The American Center for Geological Surveys (USGS) announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the east of the country, in Host, not far from the border with Pakistan. The 5.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 3:22 p.m. local time at a depth of 10 kilometers.

There were injuries in the Giyan district, in Paktika province, which was the most affected by the earthquake on June 22.

In a statement from the Paktika governor’s office, it was stated that at least ten people were injured.

Several houses damaged in the previous earthquake were demolished, and emergency teams were sent to the field.

The Bakhtar news agency, referring to witness statements, reported that there were also casualties.

At the same time, two more earthquakes hit northeastern Afghanistan during the day. An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 was recorded at 2:34 p.m., and at 5:38 p.m. a magnitude of 4.7.

In the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Afghanistan on June 22, with the epicenter in Khost, more than 1,200 people died and hundreds were injured.
