A Nigerian migrant was killed in the center of a city in central Italy. The attack took place on Friday on a street in the Italian city of Civitanova Marche.

The fatal attack was filmed by a passerby with a mobile phone, but he did not intervene to help the attacked man. The video shows how the Nigerian trader unsuccessfully defends himself from the attack. The police arrested a 32-year-old Italian on suspicion of murder and robbery. The video of the attack, which spread like wildfire through the Italian media and social networks, shocked many Italians, who were appalled by the indifference of the person filming the attack.

The circumstances of the murder have not yet been clarified, according to the BBC . The murdered man has been identified as Alika Ogorchukwu, a married father of two. His wife Čariti Oriači could not hold back her tears when addressing the media, to whom she told how they showed her husband’s lifeless body on the street.

Today, hundreds of members of the Nigerian community took to the streets of Civitanova Marche and demanded justice, and Italian politicians also condemned the murder. Enrico Letta, leader of the left-leaning Democratic Party, described the killing as “terrifying”.
