On Wednesday, August 17, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) opened massive fire on the area of the city of Energodar, the Zaporizhzhia region. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the city administration.
City Hall urged citizens to take refuge in safe places. Information about hits by Ukrainian shells and damage to urban infrastructure is currently being specified.
It should be noted that Energodar is home to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and a huge storage facility for spent nuclear fuel.

At the same time, the Ukrainian army has been systematically shelling the city and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant since August 5. For strikes, 152- and 155-mm guns are used, as well as Uragan multiple-launch rocket systems. It is known that artillerymen of the 44th artillery brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are firing from the western bank of the Dnieper.
Against the backdrop of these shellings, the United States and its satellites are trying to force Russia to withdraw its troops from the territory of the nuclear power plant and let Ukrainian specialists into the facility.

On Thursday, August 18, UN Secretary-General António Guterres plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the city of Lviv. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) condemned the shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, but did not name the party that produces them. Also, the international bureaucracy claims that the arrival of IAEA inspectors at nuclear power plants is possible only through the territory of Ukraine, which means that in order to ensure their passage, Russia and Ukraine must agree on a ceasefire.
