Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has received an invitation to the European Union leaders’ summit, according to the EU.
This became known amid reports that he could come to Brussels this week.
Charles Michel, president of the European Council, which includes EU leaders, invited Zelenskyyy to “personally attend the upcoming summit”, Michel’s spokesman said.
Spokesman Barend Leist did not say when Zelenskyy might take advantage of the invitation, noting that no further information would be provided “for security reasons”.
The next EU summit will take place on Thursday and Friday this week in Brussels.
Earlier today, multiple media reported that Zelenskyyy may attend the summit and speak at a session of the European Parliament.
EU officials declined to comment on this information.
Some have said that if news of such a visit were to leak early, it could jeopardize the Ukrainian leader’s wartime safety and reduce his chances of making the trip.
