Ukraine has said it will send dozens of rescuers to Turkey after an earthquake that killed thousands in that country and neighboring Syria.
Kiev will send “a combined search and rescue team from the state emergency service of 87 people”, including 10 crew members, to Turkey, according to the Ukrainian government website.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he spoke with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and “expressed his condolences for the terrible tragedy that struck the Turkish people as a result of the earthquake”.
“I informed him about the decision to send a rescue team and equipment from Ukraine to Turkey to help overcome the consequences of the emergency,” Zelenskyyy said on social media.
