“Their real goal is not to ‘stabilize’ the region, but to break the political will of the Serbian leadership and, above all, to force them to join the sanctions regime against Russia,” Zakharova said.
As the diplomat noted, “Washington and Brussels are doing everything possible to drag Serbia into their ‘anti-Russian front’.”
“We know what stamina Belgrade needs to keep working with us – of course, in the interests of their state – under the sternest pressure from Washington and Brussels and their comrades, who are going out of their way to train Serbia in their” anti- Russian Front “, – said in the message.
Moreover, Zakharova pointed out that the theses according to which Moscow would put pressure on Belgrade are speculations.
“There is no need to baselessly project the western style of arm twisting, which is foreign to us, onto our interaction with Serbia. If in some areas the Serbian partners have obligations that they do not have still fulfilled, so we think it’s a matter of time and their choice,” she said.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also recalled that Serbia, due to its desire to pursue an independent foreign and domestic policy, has for many years been under increasing pressure from the collective West.
At the same time, “the Russian line to Serbia remains unchanged and not subject to corrosion – no matter how drastically the circumstances in international affairs change.”
“We constantly support Belgrade, which defends sovereignty and territorial integrity in the struggle for a part of its country – the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija. We insist that the Kosovo problem, which is essential for the Serbs, be resolved on the basis of international law within the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 1244. We lend a shoulder to our Serbian partners when it is necessary to repel the shrewd and aggressive approaches of the West, which are trying to replace the subject of settlement by false compromises,” Zakharova said.
