Two Dutch F-35 fighter jets intercepted a group of three Russian military jets over Poland and cleared them from Polish airspace, the Dutch Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
“At that time, unidentified aircraft approached NATO’s area of responsibility in Poland from Kaliningrad,” the ministry said in a statement. – It turned out to be three aircraft: a Russian Il-20M escorted by two Su-27s. Dutch F-35s escorted the group from a distance and handed over the escort to NATO partners.”
The Russian Defense Ministry did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The Dutch Ministry of Defense announced that eight Dutch F-35 fighters will be stationed in Poland in February and March.
