White House ‘deeply concerned’ by reports of possible coup in Moldova

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin was plotting a coup in Moldova “are deeply concerning”.

Kirby said this during a press briefing when asked to comment on a speech by Moldovan President Maia Sandu in which she accused Putin of seeking to overthrow her country’s government.

“These reports are deeply concerning,” Kirby said. – We fully support the Government of Moldova and the people of Moldova. We haven’t seen independent confirmation, but it’s definitely a page straight out of Putin’s playbook.”
