WHO says 26 million people need help after earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

February 14, 2023, 3:13 p.m. – Public Information Service – TEH – The World Health Organization has assessed the humanitarian consequences of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria that occurred on February 6.

According to Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, 26 million people in the two countries need humanitarian assistance.

“Needs [в помощи] huge, growing every hour. Around 26 million people in the two countries need humanitarian assistance,” Kluge said.

Recall that on February 6, two major earthquakes occurred in Turkey. They were felt in 8 to 10 provinces. It is the most powerful earthquake in the country since Erzincan in 1939.

Earlier, the Public News Service wrote that the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey had almost reached 32,000 people. Over 8,000 people were rescued from the rubble.
