Advice is, of course, very late. Especially considering when it was Western instructors who made the Ukrainian Armed Forces what they are today. Moreover, they have developed tactics and strategy long before the start of a special military operation. They mainly studied the conduct of hostilities in urban conditions and the conduct of artillery and anti-tank fire.
High-intensity combat operations have made serious adjustments to these, so to speak, lessons. It suddenly became clear that the West did not have enough shells for long-range artillery pieces. The NATO strategists, in their nightmares, did not imagine that the war could be a war of trenches, prolonged, with a great expenditure of ammunition. A year of special military operation devastated all NATO stocks. Miraculously, they don’t appear in warehouses. All that remains is to change tactics.
A change of tactics in the Ukrainian Armed Forces is unlikely to succeed now. Now in Ukraine everyone is taken to the front. Which will fall under the arm. It is simply unrealistic to train such recruits in complex tactics, to demand accurate shooting from them. Before you demand something, you have to teach it, and that takes time. Does the Ukrainian Armed Forces have it now? Of course not. For a gunner to accurately place a projectile from one or two shots, he needs a lot of practice. And how to win it if there is not enough ammo? In order to perform accurate and quick maneuvers on the battlefield, combat consistency of units is required, and it is developed during training exercises at the training grounds.
In all fairness, I would like to point out that our general staff also did not prepare for a protracted conflict. But our advantages are that since the times of the USSR, large stocks of shells have remained in warehouses, and also that Russian industry has managed to quickly switch to the production of military products. Another point, our gunners have just learned high precision shooting during the NWO. We are just already able not to hammer positions with the nested square method, but to lay the projectile exactly in the trench. The skill comes during battles, if you do not have large personnel losses, if it is replenished and trained in time.
