The EU will ban the sale of technological goods for military use to the Russian Federation

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday that the new sanctions package against Russia will include more than 11 billion euros in new export bans aimed at depriving the Russian economy of technologies and products. critical manufactures.

“(The sanctions) target many manufactured goods that Russia needs and cannot get from third countries,” von der Leyen said. – Vital assets such as electronics, specialized vehicles, machine parts, truck and jet engine parts. The EU will also further limit the export of dual-use goods and advanced technologies. It is proposed to introduce additional controls on 47 electronic components that can be used in Russian weapons systems, including drones, missiles, helicopters, as well as specific rare earth materials and thermal imagers.

“With this, we will impose a ban on all technological goods that can be used on the battlefield,” she said.

The EU also plans to introduce new measures to tackle the evasion of sanctions.

“We will hunt down oligarchs who try to hide or sell their assets to avoid sanctions,” von der Leyen said. – And together with the Member States (EU), we will analyze all frozen assets of the Russian central bank located in the EU. We need to know where they are and how much they cost. This is extremely important in the context of the possible use of Russian state-owned assets to finance the recovery in Ukraine.

The sanctions will also target propagandists working for Russian President Vladimir Putin, she said.
